In November 2024, Debora joined the Tzu team as their first bioinformatician. After earning her bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, she discovered her passion for bioinformatics during her master’s program. During her internship and due in part to her enthusiastic teachers in the field, she realized this was her true calling. Since then, she has aimed to share her passion with others, particularly young talents and the interns she mentors.
She further honed her expertise during her PhD research. For Debora, it’s not just about scientific publications but also about personal growth: “I’ve become more critical and confident, qualities that support my role as a researcher.”
Tzu’s focus on innovative approaches to cancer research, such as studying circulating tumor cells (CTCs), drew Debora to the company. “I’m fascinated by the opportunity to combine my academic expertise with learning new skills and exploring new topics,” she explains.
Bioinformatics plays a crucial role in cancer research, but can be challenging to understand in relation to cancer biology. As Debora notes, “Cancer is a complex disease and can be difficult to grasp, but after all, the data does not lie.”
At Tzu, Debora focuses as a bioinformatician on exploring new therapies through in-depth DNA and RNA analyses, applying her skills to tackle complex challenges. Her goals at Tzu include both personal growth and achieving groundbreaking discoveries in cancer therapies. “I feel most fulfilled when we discover something genuinely new that makes biological sense,” she says.
In her free time, Debora enjoys a variety of activities, from listening to Taylor Swift to bouldering and gardening. Her enthusiasm for learning extends to all aspects of her life, including her latest adventure: parenthood.
